About Us
““Vatsalyam”, an experience beyond words, can only be comprehended by being with it :staying at Vatsalyam Homestay. The literal meaning of “Vatsalyam” is the highest form of affection, and for us it is much beyond that... It is simply labor of love.
It was felt that justice to the concept of “Homestay” could only be done by accepting the guests as members of our extended family which was possible only in a small property where every detail to the smallest was attended to at the personal level.
This is precisely why Vatsalyam only offers four rooms which are spacious, well ventilated and with big terraces attached to every room to make ones stay comfortable but homely.
Vatsalyam which was originally meant to be a home inherited all its merits in becoming Vatsalyam Homestay.
Located in the lap of nature and overlooking a thick Cedar forest, Vatsalyam offers complete view of the Northern aspect of the seven hills of Shimla. Being placed just at the fringe of the town and having a natural bucolic touch because of the country life around it “Vatsalyam” offers best of both the worlds.
Being close to nature Vatsalyam believes in giving back to the Mother Nature in every possible way it can. Some of this may include providing running hot water heated with Solar Energy, having a 5 Kw roof top Solar Power Plant, using harvested rain water for irrigation and gardening purposes and using energy efficient lamps etc.
Vatsalyam, a home to five of its inmates, SHARDAS, a daughter with her parents and grandparents, has become a second home to innumerable persons in about 10 years and continues to be further so.

How it all came about
Shardas moved into this house during the year 2005 to consecrate a hearth of their own and give it the sanctity of a “Home” ever expecting warmth, peace and love from it, which they got in abundance.
The name considered appropriate was “Vatsalyam” meaning the purest form of love, it is based on the love of a cow for its calf in licking to clean it when it comes soiled after playing. This is how it got its name. It has other cultural connotations as well.
Both of the senior members of the family, years after retirement from active government service, thought that they could do something more in addition to the usual household chores at hand at that time.
They wanted it to be something really worth worth-the-while, something very satisfying and after their heart. This is how they decided to contribute their mite to Vatsalyam which had already been started as Vatsalyam Homestay. It came as a natural vocation to them.

Why Vatsalayam Homestay
Vatsalyam gives the real homely feeling because the family itself lives in the same premises (Home) and the guests are served from the same kitchen as they have a free access to the entire property.
The feelings can be shared at a personal level. It is a very personal and exclusive experience unlike other commercial properties where the guests remain confined to their room with nobody to talk to.
This is what makes our patrons grow day by day and visit us again and again. Vatsalyam caters to all of guest needs in a homely way whether these are in respect of elderly persons or infants/children.
